Nasal spray for house dust allergy

If staying in your own home leads to sneezing fits and breathing problems, this can be a clear indication of a house dust allergy. An anti-allergic nasal spray with active ingredients that specifically target the allergic mechanisms in the body can help against the stuffy nose. Here's an overview of the effectiveness of nasal sprays for a house dust allergy.

How does a house dust allergy manifest itself?

Whoever suffers from a house dust allergy can no longer breathe freely in their own home. Because the excretions of house dust mites act on the immune system like an evil pathogen, which must be fought with all means. So the body's defenses gear up and do everything they can to get rid of the intruders. Typical allergy symptoms are:

  • itchy nose
  • frequent sneezing
  • running nose
  • clogged nose
  • reddened eyes
  • puffy eyes
  • itchy eyes
  • scratchy throat
  • breathlessness or even allergic asthma

How you can distinguish a house dust allergy from hay fever or. A pollen allergy can distinguish: Pollen allergy is particularly bad outdoors, hay fever improves indoors. With the house dust allergy it is exactly the other way around: Outside you have no breathing problems, as soon as you are however again at home, the large sneezing begins.

Another reference: Often the allergic rhinitis is worse in the morning after waking up. This is because dust mites feel particularly comfortable in the bedroom in the bed and mattress and there are correspondingly more allergens.

Which nasal spray helps with house dust allergy?

In contrast to pollen allergy, house dust allergy lasts all year round. When choosing the right nasal spray, therefore, mainly preparations that can be used permanently come into question. The active ingredient cromoglicic acid, contained in Pollicrom® Nasal Spray, stabilizes the mast cells and reduces the release of histamine.

Pollicrom® Nasal Spray is suitable for the permanent therapy of rhinitis symptoms caused by house dust mites. The treatment should be continued even after the symptoms have subsided as long as the patient is exposed to the allergens. Since there are no preservatives, the spray is very well tolerated and does not cause further irritation or even allergies.

Which nasal spray helps with house dust allergy?

Sometimes an allergy attack can occur quite suddenly, for example, when you enter an extremely dusty attic or a room that has not been aired or cleaned for a long time. Against the acute symptoms you can use a nasal spray with an antihistamine. The active ingredients azelastine or levocabastine come into question here. They relieve the symptoms within a few minutes, as they stop the allergic reaction and prevent the development of further inflammatory reactions . Azelastine is contained in Pollival® nasal spray.

Which medications also help with house dust allergy?

If, in addition to allergic rhinitis, eye itching or allergic conjunctivitis also occurs, the symptoms can be treated well with anti-allergic eye drops. Here, too, the question is whether you suffer permanently from the symptoms and prefer eye drops with cromoglicic acid (e.g. Pollicrom® eye drops or acute symptoms with antihistamines (e.g. Pollival® eye drops). Both eye drops contain no preservatives and are therefore well tolerated.

If the house dust allergy is so severe that a nasal spray is no longer sufficient for treatment, the additional use of antihistamine tablets is advisable. After consultation with the doctor, preparations with cortisone-like active ingredients are also a possibility to alleviate severe symptoms.

In the long term, hypo- or desensitization is useful so that you do not have to suffer permanently from breathing problems within your own four walls. This specific immunotherapy (SIT) directly addresses the cause and gradually accustom the body to the allergens. The therapy usually lasts about three years, but afterwards your immune system no longer reacts to the harmless dust particles.

What can you do against dust mites?

In addition to thorough cleaning and vacuuming, you can also go to the dust mites in other ways to the collar:

  • Sun: The warm, dry sunlight kills the mites. Therefore, air bedding, pillows and preferably also the mattress at least three hours in the sun.
  • Cold: House dust mites like cold just as little as heat. Therefore, a cool bedroom temperature below 20°C can help. Put pillows, curtains and covers in the freezer for a few hours to kill the mites.
  • Tea tree oil: Apparently, mites also do not like tea tree oil. At least the treatment of upholstery and pillows with the essential oil shows its effect. To do this, add about 30ml tea tree oil in a spray bottle with water and shake the bottle vigorously. Spray carpets, upholstery and curtains with the mixture. When using tea tree oil, however, be careful with children, because allergies can be activated by essential oils first, especially in children. Here you should first discuss with the doctor.

Generally, you should make your environment as dust-free as possible. Smooth floors are easier to clean than carpet. Instead of a comforter, use allergy-friendly bedding that you can wash at 60 ° C in the machine. As a bed cover, it is recommended to use an encasing, a protective cover that does not let the mites through.
